Grosvenor Mountains - Scott Icefall Icefields
The Scott Icefall Icefields are an isolated, discontinuous series of small ice patches situated in the middle of the Mill Glacier above a highly crevassed section known as the Scott Icefalls, south of the Otway Massif (GRO-Figure 1- 85K JPEG). The area around the ice patches is also abundantly crevassed. GRO62-Figure 1 (44K JPEG) is an aerial photo of the Scott Icefalls Icefields from the north.
A reconnaissance of the ice patches above the Scott Icefalls resulted in four meteorite specimens being recovered during the 1985-1986 season. GRO62-Figure 2 (27K JPEG) (adapted from Cassidy, 1992) shows the route of traverse and the locations of those specimens. A more thorough search effort was undertaken during the 2003-2004 season, yielding 76 meteorites.
GRO62 - Table 1 is a tabulation of the meteorite types recovered from the Scott Icefalls bare ice areas.
