ANTARCTIC METEORITE LOCATION AND MAPPING PROJECT (AMLAMP)
EXPLANATORY TEXT

Mount Baldr

Mount Baldr (77°35'S 160°34'E) is a prominent peak of the Asgard Range, which is located along the north side of the Taylor Glacier (DRY-Figure 1 - (92 KB JPEG). Bare ice patches are present on the Taylor Glacier below the southern slopes of Mt. Baldr. While the ice is technically a part of the Taylor Glacier system, the local flow is actually northward toward the Wright Valley between Mt. Baldr and Mt. Fleming. Two meteorite specimens were found during a helicopter reconnaissance during the 1976-77 season and were the first meteorites recovered by ANSMET (Cassidy, 1997; Yanai, 1978).

The two paired specimens recovered from the ice in the vicinity of Mount Baldr are given in the listing below.

Acknowledgments; Bill Cassidy, Ed Olsen, Keizo Yanai conducted the first ANSMET searches during the 1976-77 field season.
