Graves Nunataks Area Icefields Introduction
The Graves Nunataks icefields lie to the southeast of the LaGorce Mountains. GRA50-51-Figure 1 (54 KB JPEG) is a portion of the U.S.G.S 1:250000 scale Mt. Blackburn quadrangle of the Graves Nunataks area. During the 1995-1996 field season an ANSMET field team conducted reconnaissance at Graves Nunataks (86º43'S 141º30'W) and discovered meteorites on the bare ice. A team returned during the 1998-1998 season for systematic searching. A visit was also made to a small icefield 20 kilometers southwest of Graves Nunataks, along a continuation of the Graves Nunataks escarpment, where meteorites were found in small numbers. This small area of blue ice is present below and near a small nunatak (Point 2680 on GRA50-51-Figure 1) that has been informally named Inuksuq Ridge.
