ANTARCTIC METEORITE LOCATION AND MAPPING PROJECT (AMLAMP)
EXPLANATORY TEXT

Elephant Moraine - Shoodabin Icefield

The Elephant Moraine - Shoodabin Icefield is a relatively small area of bare ice situated between Elephant Moraine and Texas Bowl Icefield (ALH-DAV-Figure 1- 45 KB JPEG and EET-Figure 1 - 38 KB JPEG).  The icefield is approximately 15 square kilometers in area and lies about 10 kilometers southwest of the Elephant Moraine.  From looking at the satellite image, this icefield appeared very promising as a meteorite stranding site, and it was hoped that it would prove to be another productive meteorite locality.  A reconnaissance traverse was made over the area during the 1996-97 season.  However, only 5 specimens were found on what should have been a productive area.

Below is a listing of the meteorites from the Elephant Moraine - Shoodabin Icefield.

Acknowledgments; We thank ANSMET members Guy Consolmagno, Ralph Harvey, Laurie Leshin, Rene Martinez, Sarah Russell, and John Schutt (1996-1997) for their contribution.
