ANTARCTIC METEORITE LOCATION AND MAPPING PROJECT (AMLAMP)
EXPLANATORY TEXT

Graves - Inuksuq Ridge Icefield

Approximately 20 kilometers southwest of Graves Nunataks (86º43'S 141º30'W) lies a small outcrop with small bare ice patches in close proximity. It has informally been named Inuksuq Ridge, but on GRA50-51-Figure 1 (54 KB JPEG), a scanned portion from the U.S.G.S 1:250000 scale Mt. Blackburn quadrangle, it is marked as Point 2680.

In 1998 an ANSMET field party visited the site for a reconnaissance search.  After the first few meteorites were found it was determined that, since the bare ice area was of limited extent, the icefield should be systematically searched. A total of 12 specimens were recovered from the Inuksuq Ridge site.

GRA51-Table 1 is a tabulation of meteorite types from the Inuksuq Ridge ice patches.

Locations of specimens recovered from the Inuksuq Ridge icefield were determined by GPS point position averaging with Selective Availability on.

Acknowledgments; Paul Benoit, Nancy Chabot, Diane Dimassa, Ralph Harvey, Barry Lopez, Scott Sandford, and John Schutt made up the 1998-99 field party.
